Ever wondered how DESA track satellites?

DESA Satellite Tracker is free satellite tracking software from red diligence. You can use the program to track and even spot real satellites.

The program is great fun … but did you ever wonder how it works?

In short, DESA Satellite Tracker downloads data about the orbit of satellites.  In general, it takes at least six parameters to uniquely define an orbit and a satellite's position within the orbit (click on the image below to see more).

DESA Satellite Tracker uses this information to calculate and plot the position of the satellite at any given time.

The orbits of some satellites change over time (for example when the ISS needs to get out of the way of space junk!). It is therefore needed to update your data every once in a while. This is easily done in DESA Satellite Tracker with a click of a button.

Download DESA Satellite Tracker from the red diligence website ... it's FREE.

    1. Hi Ben, sorry for only replying now. I will add a post later today that will explain how to add specific satellites you want to track.
